From a summer job at the timber yard in the late \u201970s to today\u2019s work in the planing mill. What Bruno doesn\u2019t know about sawn timber isn\u2019t worth knowing. Much has changed in operations over the years, but camaraderie and variety in the work have remained.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bruno Blom has spent almost his entire working life at JGA. He first started as a summer worker in 1978 in the timber yard, where he picked boards in the so-called \u201clong draw.\u201d Three years later, in 1981, he got his first permanent position \u2014 and since then he\u2019s done a lot.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have worked in the cutting yard, manually sawing long lengths, worked in the trimming mill, and driven fork\u00adlifts. Since the early \u201990s I\u2019ve worked in the planing mill,\u201d Bruno explains. \u201cSo when the company celebrates its 100-year anniversary 2028, I\u2019ve been here for 50 years!\u201d<\/p>\n

A Changed Way of Working<\/h3>\n

When Bruno looks back on his years at JGA, much of how work is done has changed. \u201cIn the past we had to do a lot manually; today the work is much more automated. Back then we could saw long lengths by hand \u2014 they could be up to 7 meters!\u201d Bruno says. In the planing mill today, it\u2019s more about monitoring and rotating between different tasks. The wrapper that plastic-wraps the timber packages has also made the job significantly easier. Through the planing process both boards and planks pass, and coworkers rotate between stations, making the work varied. Something Bruno appreciates, even though in the beginning there was much new to learn and adapt to.<\/p>\n

The work has changed a lot since Bruno started at the sawmill in 1978.<\/p>\n

Enjoys the Variety and Camaraderie<\/h3>\n

The best part of the job is exactly that \u2014 the variety, Bruno says.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe work with different types of planks and boards. It never gets monotonous even though I run many of the same processes,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

Another important part is job satisfaction. Bruno highlights both the proximity to work and the colleagues as decisive factors. He has enjoyed his time over the years, and some colleagues have become friends. Since the early \u201990s he has worked in the planing operations.<\/p>\n

A Problem Solver Also Outside Work<\/h3>\n

When he\u2019s not at work, Bruno likes to tinker with the house or car. He gladly helps others when needed and is a true problem solver.<\/p>\n

\u201cI like to figure things out myself and prefer not to hire craftsmen,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

With more than four decades at JGA, Bruno has witnessed both operations and technology evolve. From manual workflows to today\u2019s automated machines. \u201cThe work has changed tremendously, but I\u2019ve always enjoyed it,\u201d Bruno concludes.<\/p>\n
